Remembering A Gentle Giant

Posted by Columbo
December 31, 2008

** UPDATED INFORMATION:  See This Post For Important Corrections & Updates **
As the year winds down, we wanted to take a moment to remember a friend of ours who passed away late in 2008.  We discovered Christmas morning in the latest edition of Street Sense that our friend and former Street Sense vendor, Orin Andrus, had [...]

Inauguration Security – We’re In The Zone

Posted by gpliving
December 30, 2008

.. the security zone, that is.  According to this recent WaPo graphic, the Penn Quarter is totally contained within the Homeland Security secure zone for the 2009 inauguration.  We’re not entirely sure what this means, but we know that no cars or buses will be allowed to park in the ‘hood.  Unfortunitly for our neighbors [...]

Two Closures: Zenith Gallery & Bead Museum

Posted by pqresident
December 29, 2008

We learned about two closures in our neighborhood…
Zenith Gallery
The Zenith Gallery (413 7th Street NW) will be closing its current location at the end of February 2009 after a 22 year run. What is clear from the press release is that Margery Goldberg, the founder and proprietor of Zenith, will stay engaged in the arts [...]

Inauguration ‘09: Get Ready…

Posted by pqresident
December 29, 2008

Inauguration ‘Superstore’ opens at 421 7th Street, NW
Need a stylish Obama tee shirt for the inauguration? Still wistful for a McCain/Palin deck of playing cards? Superstore may be a strong word as we usually give South of the Border or Walmart that distinction but the seasonal retail shop that opened at 421 7th Street NW [...]

Work To Begin Soon On Former Waffle Shop?

Posted by Columbo
December 28, 2008

Last week we noticed that someone had begun to remove debris from the interior of the former Waffle Shop (522 10th ST NW).  A few days later the windows were covered with Davis Construction paper and the door was boarded up with plywood.   Davis Construction paper also covers the windows of the new entrance to Ford’s Theatre [...]

MVT To Get A Buddha Bar

Posted by pqresident
December 26, 2008

We mentioned in October of 2007 that the Buddha restaurant chain was on the hunt in the PQ for a spot to land in Washington. They didn’t land in the PQ proper but they will land in the Mount Vernon Triangle with the announcement that a Buddha Bar will be taking that humongo and currently empty bay [...]

Christmas Time Is Here

Posted by Columbo
December 24, 2008

The forecast doesn’t call for snow, so it looks like we won’t get a white Christmas this year.  But that’s ok; there is plenty of holiday cheer in and around downtown DC to make up for it.  Today is Yesterday was the last day of the Downtown Holiday Market, which really livens up F Street [...]

11th Street Bus Station Closes; G Street Bus Station Opens

Posted by Columbo
December 23, 2008

On Monday we were greeted with a welcome sight for commuters who battle NYC discount bus travelers on the sidewalks of 11th street.  BoltBus and MegaBus are no longer using 11th street for their services.  Of course this is probably seen as terrible news to those who commute on G street or live in Mather Studios, as these [...]
