Old Man Winter Is No Friend Of Ours

Posted by Columbo
January 28, 2009

Don’t mistake the title of this post as a complaint about snow, we love snow.  Ice,  however, we hate.
Snapping photos around 8:30 am Tuesday morning (the aftermath of the fire*) the sidewalks were covered with snow as more came pouring from the sky.  For a brief moment we allowed ourselves to believe it would continue to dump all day, daydreaming [...]

Fire This Morning At 1000 F St NW (Joe’s Souvenir HQ)

Posted by gpliving
January 27, 2009

We heard via DCist and WTOP this morning that there was a fire in one of the two-story buildings on the 1000 block of F St NW.  There are only three two-story buildings on that block: Joe’s Souvenir Headquarters, the old K & B Newsstand, and the Downtown DC BID office.  Notice the black residue [...]

Posted by gpliving
January 27, 2009

For fans of the TV series, 24, last night’s episode contained a little surprise geared towards Penn Quarter residents. The entrance to the Residences At Market Square (701 Penn) was displayed along with the interior of [fictional unit] PH201! We also suspect that the interior of the two-floor unit was not filmed in the [...]

7th Street NW…Alive And Walking

Posted by pqresident
January 26, 2009

We like reading Raw Fisher, Marc Fisher’s regular musings on DC area issues appearing in the Washington Post. Yesterday he penned a piece on 7th Street NW, our neighborhood’s Main Street, that appeared in print in WaPo’s Metro section and on line – it also caught our eye. Sketching out vignettes along our Main Street as [...]

Hauling Away The Trash

Posted by Columbo
January 25, 2009

Friday night during rush hour seems like a strange time to remove the portable toilets from the courtyard between two of the Market Square buildings, (701 & 801 Penn Ave) but we can’t say we’re sorry to see them go.
By Saturday afternoon four of the stalls remained, we assume these will be hauled away soon.  [...]
