The Good Times Are Killing Me

Posted by Columbo
May 31, 2009

We woke up this morning with bleary eyes and a heavy head.  It took a couple of pieces of burnt toast and several cups of black coffee before we felt good enough to put this post together.  But just like last year, it was worth it.  Despite the high price and (once again) terrible food, [...]

Photo Of The Week: Stepsitters

Posted by pqresident
May 30, 2009

Photo of the Week honors go to Karon who tagged this photo of National Portrait Gallery stepsitters with ‘pqliving’. Other tags suggest this picture was taken with a Holga camera which means real black and white film was used – we really liked the artistry! Gives the photo that old time feel to it.

Is That A Sofa On 7th Street?

Posted by pqresident
May 29, 2009

It is. But this isn’t a yard sale nor an eviction. No T-shirt uniformed street teams promoting Blackberrys to government workers. No ad-hoc charity lovers selling Krispy Kreme donut boxes for $5 in front of the Metro escalators. No sidewalk floormat signs that appeared until DCRA put the kibosh on them. Enter Zipcar, the popular [...]

We Wish This Had Been A Yard Sale

Posted by Columbo
May 27, 2009

We don’t know the facts of this photo; we’re simply using it to illustrate an ugly situation many in PQ may be facing:  eviction.  If that’s what this photo represents, it’s the first one we’ve seen in this area in recent memory.  It could certainly be an anomaly, as we’ve seen an eviction or two in all the DC [...]

We Were Blissfully Unaware

Posted by Columbo
May 24, 2009

But Mrs Columbo wasn’t.  She snapped this photo of the Bliss Spa awning in the new W Hotel (old Hotel Washington) building at the corner of 15th & F streets NW.  A quick internet search tells us that we’re not the first people to hear about this, but we’re certainly happy to pass along the news.
The [...]

New Poll…How Do You Use Parks?

Posted by pqresident
May 23, 2009

With the glorious weather arriving, we turn our thoughts to spending time outdoors. There are a number of parks in downtown DC and we’ve always been curious about how workers, residents and visitors make use of those parks so check out the new poll on the right and place your vote.

Photo of the Week: Summer’s Coming!

Posted by pqresident
May 22, 2009

With Memorial Day weekend marking the unofficial beginning of summer, we thought this fantastic ’spectreman’ photo tagged with pqliving on flickr really captured how we’re feeling about the long weekend. Don’t forget to kick your shoes off and put your feet in the water for a bit too – it will be in the 80s this [...]
