Posted by Columbo
September 30, 2009

Walking down 10th Street yesterday we noticed a new retail store between the Peterson House (the house where Lincoln died) and the Lincoln House Restaurant (the new Waffle Shop).  We’re saying new retail, but really the location had always been a souvenir shop; only now there is a sign on the door which reads “Ford’s [...]

Posted by Columbo
September 23, 2009

The Washington Examiner ran a story today by Michael Neibauer noting that disabled persons may now ride their segways on city sidewalks inside the Central Business District.  We agree with the DC Counsel on that and we’re glad they made the change.
What was striking to us about this article was the fact that segways are [...]

In this period of commercial construction financing interrupted, the opening of a brand new residential apartment building in our neighborhood is a welcome sight. In this case, we’re talking about the Ashton Judiciary Square apartment building at 750 3rd Street, NW which is now open for leasing and has its initial batch of tenants moved [...]

Posted by pqresident
September 19, 2009

We haven’t put up a Wayback story in a while but our favorite old photo site, Shorpy, never disappoints and this gem from 1920 taken in the 1200 block of G Street, NW shows off some interesting elements of the time. All the shops are retail with a frame shop, a tailor (Geraci) and a [...]
