frankly, I don't see the big fuss about being told that the nearest bar to watch sports is Hooters when in fact one of the nearest bars to watch sports is Hooters. there was no mention of tone of voice so I can't make any assumptions. they won't be showing the game at the Safeway!

the other nearest bars to watch sports could be the Old Dominon Brewpub on 7th St, the Irish Channel, RFD and Fado...the last two of which are near... tada... Hooters.

that said, I'm glad *some* place is a sports free zone.

We tried to go there for lunch as well on Saturday and was equally disappointed. I still can't fathom how they wouldn't be open on the first weekend for lunch and make use of all the buzz that was going around all week about them ... had planned the weekend's outing around lunch there and it put a damper on things ... I have yet to read anywhere that they weren't going to be open the first weekend for lunch ... all references (even in the comments after opening) stated they're open for lunch/brunch. No real hurry now, we'll get there when we get there.

it's not that BB&P doesn't show sports that's the problem - the fact that "the overwhelming majority of restaurants and bars DO show sports" is met with the condescending attitude that "there's a Hooters down the street" makes it not only pretentious but pretty obnoxious.

Clearly we should have checked the hours, as a starving Mrs Columbo & I tried to go to B&P on Saturday around 3:30 for a late lunch before hitting the grocery store. Turns out then don't open until 5:30.

You know how they say don't go shopping on an empty stomach? Safeway made out big time on our impulse purchases.

Sparky would probably ask Marrakesh to put on the Redskins too. He just doesn't get it...

My wife and I went for the first time last night (Sunday). I had no expectations going in, have never been to the other locations, am by no means an "artsy" person and the day I find myself at a live poetry reading is the day I know my body has been taken over by aliens. So here's what happened: we had a delightful meal (tasty burger for me, terrific veggie pesto lasagna for her) nice wine, pleasant if slightly overeager service (including a welcomed check-in by the floor manager) in a very nice atmosphere. As a four-year resident of Penn Quarter, I am thrilled to have BB&P available. It's a terrific alternative to Clyde's and the outdoor seating is rivaled only by Zaytinya.

hey sparky:
if not wanting to watch sports is pretentious than color me pretentious. the overwhelming majority of restaurants and bars DO show sports, sports and only sports on their tvs which i find a complete turn-off. so, i applaud Bus Boys for being a sports-free zone for those of us who don't care to watch a bunch of overpaid guys run around a field and listen to annoying commentators wax on about it.

and seriously, are you really putting down the hard working guys and gals who earn an honest buck by being willing to clean up after you?.

I went to the City Vista location last night to watch the debate. It was super packed, with a friendly crowd. I did manage to spend $42 before tax and tip on a bowl of soup, three beers, and two well drinks. So that seemed a bit high. But the food and drink were fine, the service at the bar was great, and it was a totally adequate place to watch the debate. I might go back for the VP debate on Thursday.

I've only been in DC for a couple of weeks, and I've ended up going to the 14th St. location twice because they have free WiFi and didn't seem to mind me loitering there. It's an odd place. I walked in expecting a coffee house, and it sort of is one: it's a house that serves coffee. But the service is terrible (mostly due to understaffing and lots of business), and it didn't really have a strong "third place" feeling to me.
