2 Amy’s is great pizza, but again, its not available downtown. It would be nice if we could get some calzones, strombolis, and cannolis at Bistro Med in the future. The Italian Store in Arlington has the best all around Italian food in the DC area, it would be great if they could open a store in DC.

in the style of matchbox & ella’s, how come noone’s mentioned 2 amys? best thin crust hands down. too bad it’s soooo far away.

anyways, has anyone tried the falafel or “bistro med” part of pizza bistro med? it would be cool if there was a fusion pizza…

Had a slice of cheese today. Its a pretty good basic slice with not too much greasy feel (some crispness in crust and cheese). Decent spice in the sauce. Good enough for me for lunch and would probably soak up some of the late night beer overdose feeling after a night out. Forgot to ask how late its open.

Does anyone remember the free pizza slices at Ellas at happy hour a few years ago. Dems were the days (as long as you didnt get trampled dashing for the free slices when they came out of the kitchen every 15 minw0.

Ellas and Matchbox have good pizza, but its not the same as NY style. I think that is the point everyone, including myself, is trying to make here. More options in the neighborhood are a great thing, maybe a real late night diner can open too?

I give Matchbox a small edge over Ella’s. both are just fine. that said, I do have a hankering for a slice and not a whole pie every now and then so will be checking out Bistro Med.

Best pizza by the slice is very subjective of course… but my money is on the Italian Store in Arlington. Inside the district it’d be Pete’s APizza. Flippin and Pizza Autentica are very Sbarros-esque to me with Flippin being a little better and Autentica being a little worse.

I’m going off on a bit off the reservation on this one… but are there any former Richmonders here who used to get Pizza by the Slice from the “Pizza Nazi” in Shockoe Bottom? Atleast that’s what he was called in the late 90′s due to his similarity to the infamous Seinfeld Soup Nazi.

Lauren, after they have their menus, they will start delivery service and accept all cards except for AMEX.

Flippin is opening in Dupont Circle, website says coming soon, will try it.

Ellas is an overpriced tourist trap… locals know to go to Matchbox when there isn’t a two hour wait. The best pizza is Flippin’ in Bethesda… closest pizza to NYC.

Why anyone would eat pizza at Matchbox when Ella’s is a couple blocks away is beyond me. I guess Matchbox has a better scene if you like waiting for a table to eat a nasty burnt pizza that tastes like it came from the freezer aisle.

Gallery place dude way to call out people that choose to dine at Matchbox. Once again this blog continues to serve as a forum to one up other neighbors. As someone that grew up in Brooklyn eating great pizza I think Matchbox is just fine. I personally like Vapiano the best.
