Ping Pong Restaurant Set To Open At 7th & I St NW

My wife and I ate at a Ping Pong Dim Sum place in London. It’s a chain of pan-Asian dim sum/small plates restaurants across London. Maybe this is one of those?

We have reached saturation with restaurants serving amorphously described “Asian food.” Is this one consumer’s judgment so out of line with the business reality of things? How can restaurateurs see an unmet demand for Asian food? I grant that it’s better than nothing, but really not by much. Lauriol Plaza’s people should get their act together and recognize that they are missing out on a major business opportunity. The place would be full like Matchbox (or the other Lauriol) every night of the week.

Boo! I thought this was going to be a PING PONG restaurant (i.e., like Comet Ping POng).

I ate at a restaurant called Ping Pong in Las Vegas. It was Thai. Related as well? Hmmm.

I phoned the Chicago Ping Pong; no relationship to the one in PQ.

I can only hope this is a Ping Pong Dim Sum place. Watch the video on the “about” page — all freshly made and prepared — unlike much of the warmed over, frozen dim sum now in Chitown.

Another Asian Restaurant. Great. Instead, how about another location for Surfside (Glover Park) or Open City Cafe (Woodley Park) or _________________ (fill in the blank). Please? Pretty Please?

Another Asian restaurant. That’s thinking outside the box. This will really fill a need.
I still can’t understand why no entrepreneur has realized that we need a NY style pizzeria where we can get a quick slice or plate of spaghetti or a chicken ball parmigiana on a wedge etc. How about on the southwest corner of at 6th and H where the video store used to be?

It’s pretty funny that people move to Chinatown and complain about all the Asian restaurants.

@Joe R – There used to be a pizzeria on New York Avenue called Ristorante AV. Been there since the 1940s, but the only people who went there were locals who long ago moved out of the neighborhood. The place just wasn’t hip, trendy, or vibrant enough, and the real estate market was going through the roof, so they sold to Doug Jemal. You might want to ask him what’s up with the Waffle Shop move. Maybe they could serve you your carryout pizza.
