There's always Il Mulino if you've got an expense account. But if you're broke, Bistro Italiano by Union Station is still cheap. And their waiters aren't nearly as rude as AV's were.

How could you possibly interpret comment #3 to refer to vapiano as a traditional Italian restaurant? It doesn't state or imply that Vapianao is traditional Italina food. Anyone who thinks such is the case also probably considers Pizza Hut to be the same.

I hope you arent refering to Vapiano as a traditional Italian restaurant. It is a German company that passes off bad Italian food in a cafeteria setting.

now that AV is gone, there are no traditional italian restaurants in the east end, and very few in the DC Metro area for that matter.

tosca is close by, but I don't consider that traditional italian.

The WP weekend chat had a piece about a month ago about Vapiano being at the present site but with renovations there.
Here's what was said -- it references a question the previous week about whether the site was changing due to the large holes in the building:

Eve Zibart: Okay, here's the official scoop on Vapiano (didn't think I'd forget, did you?) The management is still eager to go into Chinatown, but the construction delays (a whole new basement, among other things) has pushed it back to March or April. So in the meantime, they're moving faster in Dulles Town Center and expect to be open by the end of November.

Curt Fields: Tying up a loose end from last week's chat.
