They do offer a “Press Pass” for $75 that gives you unlimited visits for a year, including the “be a reporter” section that will be an extra charge for the $20 entry fee. The $75 also gets you a 10% discount at the store.
Something to consider if you live in the neighborhood and plan to visit the Newseum often… or at least 4 times in a year.
In all fairness, admission for Madame Tussauds is more than what the Newseum is and you can fit the whole of MTs on a sliver of the first floor of the Newseum.
I have been on a pre-tour of the Newseum and I can say it’s going to nothing less than spectacular… not to mention some fantastic views of the city from numerous points in the museum.
For the size and content of the Newseum, it’s hard to complain about $20 vs MTs and even the Spy Museum.
#5 Good points, except I’d hesitate to mention Madam Tussaud’s in the same conversation.
The Spy museum is fantastic, and has proven to be worth the price of admission for several years now. I wish it were less, and would go more often if it were, but am still willing to ante up for repeat visits from time to time because its worth it. Hopefully it will be the same for the Newseum– I wish it were less, but anticipate it will be worth $20.
MT’s is carnival sideshow quality at best, and I just don’t understand the attraction. We’ll see how it does longterm with the competition of all the free museums and two other high quality museums charging roughly the same admission price in the same general neighborhood. Then again, maybe posing next to a wax statue for a picture is what people want.
A sign at the Regal Theaters says that MT is having a reduced admission with a ticket stub from their movie theater. Maybe $10?
So first you see the actors in film, followed by the actors in wax? I’d rather use my ticket stub for discounted dining.
These “pay” museums are bogus. The only people I know who go are tourists.
The Museum of American Art/National Portrait Gallery is a treasure. Culture, not schlock. And free…
Joe, you’re simply fortunate to live in a city where a good number of museums/galleries are free of charge. The Portrait Gallery/American Art Museum is free only because it receives massive government subsidies (along with a number of private donations). And seeing as how I’ve been to pretty much ever “pay” museum in DC (the Spy Museum, the Corcoran, the Kreeger, etc.) AND I live here, I can say with certainty that pay museums are anything but “bogus”.
According to the press release on the Newseum website announcing the opening date, admission will be free on April 11.

I’m pretty disappointed by the $20 admission fee, especially for a museum celebrating a free press and the flow of information. I’ll go once, but repeat visits will be too expensive.
