Prices So Low They’re Insane
BooksPlus, the small bookstore located inside the MLK downtown branch, is closing at the end of the year. We’ve purchased a number of books from this little kiosk over the years and we’re a little saddened to see it close. Heck we still sip coffee from a DC Public Library coffee mug we purchased here years ago. But it was no doubt a loss-leader, hard to make a buck selling books when your literally giving them (well borrowing) away for free as well. Speaking of bucks, through the end of the year all books at the BookPlus bookstore are discounted to $1. The closing is part of the renovations coming to the first floor of the library.
The public library is also in the early stages (began on December 5th) of their fine forgiveness campaign. Need to return that copy of Tropic of Cancer you’ve had since high school? Now is your chance to do so and to have the fee waived. No matter how overdue or the condition of the returned item, the library will waive all fees no questions asked. The library is hoping to encourage patrons to come back and use their services who may have stayed away for fear of overdue fines. Even if you have lost the item you borrowed, you can come into the library and have your account cleared by speaking with a clerk as the circulation desk. It doesn’t get any easier than that, you have until February 5th to take advantage of this generous offer.
