Thai Restaurant Moving Into The Artisan Building (updated)
Lafayette resident just wrote in to let us know that they saw a liquor license application posted for a Thai restaurant with “occasional” DJ or live music next to the Artisan condo’s entrance. The location is on the 900 block of E St .
This place, called Asia Nine Bar & Lounge, is going to be huge! It looks like it will occupy the remaining two storefronts directly to the right of the resident’s entrance. Here’s a pic of the familiar orange license application:
Thanks Lafayette resident!

I was wondering if there are any future Artisan residents following this blog, and how they feel about the fact that McDonald’s is moving back into their first floor. I’ll also reveal my bias – I wish there would be fewere McDonald’s in our area.
As a future resident, McDs I could do without – not a fan of the food but mostly the blowing trash will likely increase along with that eternal fry grease smell. But it will bring more people to the area, so maybe motivate more and perhaps better businesses to open?
I am a future Artisan resident. Sure I would rather Matchbox move in than McDonald’s, and I hope my condo doesn’t smell like fries, and I hope there aren’t bums hanging outside the building and trying to sneak in the lobby to sleep in the stairwell for the night, but I also see a lot of empty ground level spots around, and it’s not realistic to think every spot will be filled with something everyone loves. I think if a Starbuck’s went in there, some people would complain about that too (as I’ve seen in other neighborhoods). If there is no demand for the McDonald’s and they are always empty, they will close. Unfortunately I don’t think that will happen. I think they will be busier than Cowgirl Creamery and World Market combined, so it would be hard to argue there is no demand for their product in our neighborhood.
Is there a World Market planned for our area? Don’t know if that was a typo by the future Artisan resident or what.
I thought about buying in the Artisan, but after seeing “sidewalk cafe open till 2AM” every night of the week, right underneath the windows of all those condos, I think I’ll look elsewhere. City noise is one thing, but a trash-strewn McDonalds (see Gallery Place/Verizon Center) and a “live 5 peice band” till 3AM on the weekends has turned me off on that building for good. Enjoy trying to re-sell those condos in a few years!!! Talk about taking a loss!

That’s great! I walk past that buiding everyday on my way home from work.
