West Elm Info + Asylum Skate Shop Closed?
Mike wrote in to ask two questions:
1) Is Asylum Wake, Skate, and Board closed? (819 7th St NW)
2) Is West Elm really going to open this month as is stated on their website? (1020 G St NW)
Asylum: We tried calling their store and got a “this number has been disconnected” message. Can any readers shed some light on a possible closing?
West Elm: When a store is about to open, they start posting job opportunities. Sure enough, craigslist has a West Elm ad to hire temporary workers to “[…] help unload trucks, set up stock rooms, unpack merchandise and assist in merchandising the store. You must be available August 6th through August 17th.” So, that means that by today, the interior should be completely stocked!
Update: Anon points us to today’s WaBizJo article announcing the August 20th opening of the store.
Thanks Mike!

Anon: I doubt it. If a store is having a closing sale, they usually put that on the sign. I’m guessing they’re getting ready for their fall/winter collection.
I think they’ll be opening on Monday. I am a frequent shopper of west elm online and in the past 4 weeks i’ve recieved no fewer than 8 e-mails heralding the opening of the store on Monday (most recently today).
this is my favorite part of the WBJ article. a discount !
“As part of its grand opening Aug. 20 — which includes a ribbon-cutting with Fenty — West Elm will offer 10 percent off purchases of $250 and more for a week for customers who show a Metro fare card, among other planned perks.”
FWIW, the Wake -Asylum shop on Bethesda Row is also closed. The signage has been removed and a lease sign is in the window.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Wash. Business Journal is reporting,
“D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty plans to help mark the official opening Aug. 20 of West Elm on G Street NW. “
