Neighborhood…
Penn Quarter – The Martin Luther King library (901 G St NW) celebrates its 40th year of operation starting tomorrow. There are activities and events all week long including a block party on Saturday, August 25. We always enjoy a visit here to take out those free DVD movies…it’s how we catch up on our back catalog. Penn Quarter – Performance street parking is coming to our neighborhood thanks to a $1M grant from the Federal Highway Administration. Yes…there will be an app for that. [WaPo – District of DeBonis]
Real Estate…
Penn Quarter – Donald Trump talks more about what he plans for the Old Post Office redevelopment in the 1100 block of Pennsylvania Ave NW. The over the top snapshot? A 261 room deluxe hotel with three restaurants, spa, lounge, 35,000-square-foot banquet facilities and a curated museum dedicated to the building’s history and the Congress Bell. [WaPo]
Penn Quarter – Ding, ding! Class will soon be in session at the Basis charter school at 410 8th St NW between D and E Streets starting August 27. It’s great to have kids in the neighborhood! Here’s more about the school’s secret sauce. [WaPo] & [BASIS DC website]
Restaurants…
Penn Quarter – Speaking of the Old Post Office building, the early reviews are in on Del Frisco’s Grille which took Les Halles’ place at 1201 Pennsylvania Ave NW. [Eater DC] & [WaPo]
Penn Quarter – District of Pi (912 F St NW) turns off their food truck to focus on their bricks and mortar restaurant. [Food Truck Fiesta]
Downtown – The proprietor of Zengo signs for a space at 1300 Eye St NW presumably for Toro Toro, a pan-Latin restaurant concept. [Washington Business Journal] & [Eater DC]
Penn Quarter/Golden Triangle – Amorini Panini will be opening a second location at 801 18th St NW near the World Bank. Amorini’s food truck continues operating as it has been. [Washington Business Journal]
Penn Quarter – Social Reform (401 9th St NW) will be getting a new awning. We’ve eaten at the bar a few times and enjoy the rerigged menu and happy hour. [Zagat]
Downtown – The folks from Againn gastropub are opening a coffee/casual eats shop called Bean & Bite at 1152 15th St NW (between L and M St). [Thrillist]

Shootings…
Penn Quarter – A man accidentally shot himself in the leg during a scuffle in front of or inside the Verizon Center McDonald’s (601 F St NW). [WaPo] & [DCist]
