Shakespeare Theater Takes Hamlet To The Park (Free!)
Our PQ neighbor, The Shakespeare Theatre Company, just began its annual Free For All production. This year, they are showing Michael Kahn’s production of “Hamlet” at Carter Barron Amphitheatre in Rock Creek Park. The free production runs under the stars from May 22-June 1, at 7:30 p.m. nightly (no performance Mondays). We saw this show last year and it is a definite crowd pleaser!
As far as getting there is concerned, we recommend taking your Vespa (there is free off-street parking). The public transit route consists of taking the Green line to Columbia Heights and transferring to the 52/54 until you cross Iowa Avenue. The cross streets for the amphitheatre are 16th St. and Colorado Ave. NW.

You can actually take a bus the entire distance. It really doesn’t take much longer than the metro+bus and is certainly cheaper. From H & 7th street, take any west bound bus. Or take the red Connector on Massachusetts Avenue. Or on E street take the D6. No matter what bus, just transfer at 14th street to northbound 52, 53, or 54.
A Metro bus costs $1.25 on a Smartcard or $1.35 cash and ask for a transfer.
If your trip starts on the red Connector, just pay $1 via cash or the Smartcard. You will get a transfer which can be used on any Metro bus.
Bus travel is the bargin of our city! Enjoy!
