Old World Italian Coming To Restored Woodward (15th & H NW)
The truth is sometimes stranger than fiction especially since the ground floor of the Woodward Building, a formerly aspiring Class C office building [tic] housing offices, a liquor store, a Christian bookstore and a bikini/club wear shop will now be getting an 11K square foot restaurant. That’s a 175 seat Old World Italian restaurant, bakery/sandwich shop and wine store if you’re keeping score at home…definitely not a small eatery. The Woodward Building was built in 1911 at the corner of 15th and H Streets NW along what was Washington’s mini-financial district [PDF] and was given a $45M makeover in the last year to become 189 rental apartments including one of those robo-parking devices for your car.
What do we like about this news? First, we at PQ Living get to combine a Wayback post with a current news story…the photo above was taken in 1923. Second, downtown is getting a casual business lunch alternative to the nearby Old Ebbitt Grill courtesy of the Star Restaurant Group, the same group responsible for Zola.

I’m a little late in responding to this, but wow, I’m really excited about the huge Italian Restaurant. This is excellent information, thanks!
