Bar Louie Opening June 11th (pics)
We reported a couple of weeks ago that Bar Louie (701 7th St NW – Gallery Place complex) would be opening on June 10th. Cheryl wrote in with some new info, courtesy of KWynn at Chowhound. Seems that interviews were being conducted on-site in May and the representative mentioned a June 11th opening date. All exterior signage appears to be in place – check out the pics.
Also, Bar Louie completes the Gallery Place housing/retail/office complex – 100% occupied!

I originally moved to DC with one of those corporate “chains” to open stores. I have a different gig now, but I always heard people complain about corporate “chains”.
If people feel so passionate they should be enterprising and open something they consider to be worthy of their neighborhood.
It looks to me like some of the corporate chains have provided options for people in DC that they did not have before.
The Gallery Place neighborhood does have Matchbox and local “chains” like The Greene Turtle and The Irish Channel Pub. So their are local businesses. Don;t forget all the Chinese mom and pop places that are closing because they can make more money by selling. With enough patronage from the “locals” they would be better off not selling.
teh problem is that people in this city flock to chains. no real funky/artisan/entrepreneurial extablishments have ever really made it in dc. always the “reginal chain” that looks to dc to support it. the city needs more places like matchbox, great non big business great thought out gathering spots.
That’s because DC doesn’t make it econically feasible for the non-chain [local] businesses to start up, but seems to bend over backward with tax abatements and other incentives for the big names who already have a strong financial backing to come to the city.
I only wish they’d entice Old Navy and Apple to open flagship stores downtown.
DCRay: That reminds me, does anyone have access to the paid part of the Washington bizjournal? There was an editorial about an Apple store here.
gpliving: I wish I had a paid subscription to the WBJ, too expensive for me though… definitely an great tease of what you can read for free though! Let me know if you ever get your hands on the full article, I’ll do the same!
Any word why? When I was in Bar Louie yesterday the GM told me they would be ready mid to late next week. He gave me a tour and they were looking pretty good. It seemed as if staff were training or beginning to train as well.

Isn’t there meant to be something above where the Haggen-Daz is?
