ANC2C Meeting Recap – Only Lasted 3 Minutes!

Posted by gpliving
April 4, 2007

Many thanks to our friends at OffSeventh who were able to record the ANC2C meeting tonight for those of us residents who were unable to attend the public meeting.

It won’t take long to review the recording because the meeting only lasted 3 minutes and 33 seconds!

    WHAT?!

This is outrageous! And not hard to see why Doris Brooks doesn’t want these proceedings taped. Everything I’ve seen and heard supports the conclusion that ANC2C makes a mockery of the democratic process.

I’m going to my own ANC (6C) meeting next week – hopefully it’s not as much of a zoo.

(Who is that crazy woman in the blue jacket applauding at the cancellation?)

    CBD:
    That would be Mary Sutherland.

OMG…I used to work with Mary Sutherland. She was such a nice lady. I thought that looked like her, but I couldn’t believe she was acting like that. That ANC needs some counselling. Perhaps the councilmember should step in.

I spoke with Windy at Jack Evans office today, and she informs me that under the law, neither Jack, nor the Council, nor Gottlieb Simon, nor the mayor has any authority to do anything about our ANC situation unless our elected commissioners commit a felony. Other than that, our only recourse is at the ballot box or through a recall.

I wonder if it isn’t time to talk about a recall effort. However, that recall is going to fall squarely on the residents of Gallery Place in order to be successful. Is there any way to motivate everyone to get out to vote if there is a recall effort?

Comment by gpliving on April 5, 2007 @ 10:31 am

Carmen: A recall of Brooks won’t work – Penn Quarter doesn’t have the numbers right now because the newer buildings aren’t fully populated and settled (and probably won’t until the next election).

However, a successful recall of Curtis is very much attainable.

    Question for everyone-
I am moving to the Whitman next month – is this my ANC? When do we vote?

Comment by gpliving on April 5, 2007 @ 11:23 am

dcdave: yes, you will be in ANC2C. ANC elections take place every two years and coincide with the national elections. So, we’re looking at 2008.

Comment by CityLiving on April 5, 2007 @ 10:49 pm

Oh yes, we most certainly have recourse.

Let’s make sure MANY of us attend EVERY ANC2C meeting, bring video cameras and tape them. Brooks and her cohorts will either stop the meetings or give up and let them go on.

If Brooks continues to stop the meetings, this will be good for everyone. Maybe she’ll do the community a favor and finally retire.

The May 2 ANC Meeting is at Africare,

Not much new business can be put on the Agenda until they tackle the old business two month’s old:

Africare has specific rules for recording in their facilty. It’s easy enough though, download a media release form, file it in advance, get approval and you’re good to go:
