Change Is In The Air
You might think you’re seeing things. Maybe a few too many glasses of wine at Proof? Nope. At PQ Living we thought our site was getting, well, a little behind the times so we decided to pull it into the garage, take a look under the hood, put it up on the lift and make a few changes. Now we’re sending it back on the road. Follow the break for a few highlights about the new site.
If you’re a regular, thanks for coming back. If you’re a newbie, come on in and take a look around. Either way, the stories will keep coming and we hope you like what you see.
– The PQ Living Team
New Design – Fall is in the air so we decided to put some brown on to match the season. We’ll be tweaking and adding features in the next few months.
Bookmarking – At the bottom of each story is a feature that lets you tag (or Digg or Stumble Upon and so on) stories or e-mail them to your friends, just like the big boy sites let you do.
Advertising – Running PQ Living costs money so we’re adding advertising to cover our costs. None of our stories are paid placements. If you’re a local business and want to advertise, get in touch with us.
Comment Policy – We updated our comment policy to be more specific. We still moderate all comments and we won’t be perfect in doing so but the goal is to encourage fair, lively, educational and clean comment exchanges.

First Facebook and now this! I’d like to think I am flexible and can adapt, but one of the joys of the older interface was the quiet calm of look and feel, and the sense of community.
But I will say I am OK with the Advertising. Google ads are well matched to the topic so they may lead someplace I would otherwise miss.
Excellent choice of colors, layout, and overall balance.
Looks like you’re serious about our community and you give a sense of permanence.
You’ve grown up PQLiving!
Hi. I like the new layout, but I would suggest taking away the trauncated posts with the “Continue Reading” link. You should post the entire entry. This site has one to two updates per day and they are usually short and content rich, so I like to read most of the posts and find the page very easy to navigate without the click throughs. For the user it is easer to ‘Page Down’ on the stories that are not interesting to them versus the constant clicks if you want to read three consecutive stories.
I liked the old look better. I’m finding this more difficult for some reason. Maybe the background is too dark?
I think I speak for all of us at PQLiving when I say we appreciate all the feedback (even the negative). The web is a very fluid medium, so we’ll take all your suggestions into account as we tweak the site in the coming weeks and months.
Thanks again for the comments, we very much appreciate the support of all of our readers.
ethan – thanks for the point about the Continue Reading link which we’ll consider going forward. the Continue Reading link is manually inserted by us authors and we try to use it judiciously. there’s always a balance we trade off between having a longer story fully displayed and keeping a reader’s interest on the main page by having a variety of stories visible at one time. we appreciate your thoughts.
a general thanks goes out to everyone for their comments. you can always e-mail us if you think of a suggestion and want to send it in. see the Contact Us page linked from the top of our site.
I like the new layout, but think the contrast between the dark brown background and the stark white text field is too great. How about a slightly lighter background (I like the brown, just not SO dark) and maybe a beige text field or light shade of blue–something neutral/light that isn’t a sterile white. Obviously, you don’t want too many colors, just soften it up a bit (with the orange and yellow links). Otherwise, very nice.
Please fix whatever change you made that makes this page load so much more slowly than the old version. It looks like it has completed loading, but when you click in a link it is still “waiting” on the page to finish doing something
