Here’s what we were reading recently about neighborhood news in DC. Have something to add? Leave it in the comments!
National Mall – Song 1 starts up at the Hirshhorn Museum and is projecting (see video above). It runs daily from sunset to midnight until May 13. This and the Bloomberg Balloon have us excited that the Washington modern art scene is breaking its normal boundaries. Way cool! [WaPo – Song 1] & [WCP – Bloomberg Balloon]
Downtown – The Downtown BID is proposing to hike its assessments for commercial properties to fund a “to do” list. [WaBizJo]
Downtown – TJ Maxx is hiring for their soon to be opened store at 13th and F St NW. [Prince of Petworth]
Mount Vernon Triangle – Douglas Development proposes a spec office building on New York Ave NW between 7th and 6th St NW. [The Triangle]
Chinatown – Duane Reade, the convenience/drug store found in abundance in New York City, may be interested in taking the space at 7th and H St NW in the now under redevelopment Gallery Square. [WCP – Comments section]
Penn Quarter – J. Crew is coming to 950 F St NW and the Atlantic Building. After walking by empty F St retail bays for years, we are happy this news arrived. [WaPo]
Shaw – Shaw Main Streets is hosting its annual gala on Wednesday, April 18 from 7 to 9:30 pm at the Long View Gallery on 9th St NW. [RenewShaw]
Penn Quarter – Weschler’s will be holding its 5th Penn Quarter on the Block charity auction/cocktail reception on Thursday April 19th between 6 and 8 pm at the auction house on E St NW. This year’s beneficiary is the Sasha Bruce Youthwork. We’ve attended this event in past years and enjoyed it. [Weschler’s website]

I read elsewhere that Walgreens was moving into 7th and H and not Duane Reed. Regardless, it is another chain store that is what we in this country (but no where else) call a drug store or pharmacy and offers bottom of the line products or CVS under a different brand name. Whoopee.
