De Pue’s Menu Makes Its Presence Known (405 8th St NW)
Chef Frederik de Pue’s Azur (405 8th St NW) restaurant ran for about 6 months before shuttering and the chef/owner’s announcing a change in strategy. Now, evidence that changes are happening have become apparent on the exterior of the 8th Street address, the future location of Menu, with workers seen busy and branded posters showing up in the windows. Menu promises three concepts in one incorporating an artisanal local market, a neighborhood bistro, and a 40 seat restaurant in a single edifice. The combo space is slated to open in early 2014.
For those who want a sample of the Menu menu (menu squared?), they can see if seats remain for the pop-up run at Table, Chef de Pue’s other restaurant in the Shaw neighborhood. Tonight is the last night to try the popped up menu which may include the items shown on the tweeted photo of the sample menu.

The part I’m most excited about is the “market” part of it – anything grocery-like is still very much needed in our neighborhood….what feels like the last remaining area on earth that lacks its own grocery store!
