Foodie Radar: Mediterranean Chic at City Center
We were thrilled to be a guest today at the newest opening in City Center DC, Fig & Olive (934 Palmer Alley, NW) (by the way, is it just us or is City Center quickly starting to look like a mini-Manhattan with all the outposts of NYC favorites!). Following a splashy opening party last week, the restaurant treated Friends & Family to lunch today and, aside from wanting to check it out, who says ‘no’ to free lunch! The relaxed, Mediterranean chic decor and spacious lounge area is sure to make Fig & Olive a favorite with the sophisticated crowd.
The menu is diverse with crowd favorites from Spain, Italy and France. As they proudly note, all items highlight olive oil, not butter. In some cases, the decor felt more refined than the food presentation, the flavors were very authentic and delicious. The drink menu also shows promise with both interesting concoctions and twists on classic cocktails. Service was excellent – friendly, attentive and timely, which isn’t always the case around an opening. We definitely think Fig & Olive is going to be a neighborhood darling very soon and, like Fiola Mare last year, could easily become the 2015 “it” place for those wanting the experience of a Mediterranean escape here in DC.
