Gallery Place Building Permit Update
Not much action in this update.. and no, there are no new permits for the Balducci’s. I did walk past the Balducci’s last weekend and one of the doors was open to reveal a handful of workers in a dimly-lit room populated with concrete pillars. The only information I have is that the Balducci’s will have a seating area and also around 50+ dedicated parking spaces.
Onto the single permit update: Rainbow Inn Restaurant (611 H St NW) gets a facelift! Here are the details: 2 NEW AWNINGS, NEW BASEMENT STEPS AND RAILING, NEW SIGNS, CHANGE BASEMENT DOORWAY TO ACCEPT NEW STAIRWAY.
Update:
Thanks to Anon for asking a construction worker when Balducci’s will open. The answer? June.

Anon: Thanks for the info.. I have also heard similar things about the Gallery Place Condo parking situation where residents were sent letters saying they can only park on the lower floors. I think their security situation is a little better though. But, it is managed by Colonial, not Interpark.
Anyone know what, if any, construction is going on at the store front between the Starbucks at 7th and Indiana and the “Top Shelf” bar?
Also, any word on the store front where the old Union Hardware store was located? (D, between 7th and 8th).
Prob. not, but just wanted to throw that out there.
Actually, the Potbelly will be on the other side of Top Shelf. Don’t know what’s between that and Starbucks.
I walked past the Balducci’s the other day and noticed that they had taken down their signs. After checking their website only to see that they had taken off their “coming soon” advertisement for the store, I called the other Balducci’s in down.
Turns out we in Gallery Place/Penn Quarter are not getting a grocery store after all. Apparently, their investment bankers pulled out saying it wasn’t the right place at the right time. You would think with all the new condos in town someone would have the foresight to realize that a grocery store in this part of town isn’t just a good idea but a darn good idea.

About Balducci’s — I asked a construction worker there when it will open and he said June.
And yeah, they get 65 parking spaces on the first level of the garage. I happen to live in the Clara Bartan and I’m totally bugged by this. We get to park in the bowels of the garage where a lot of vandalism/break ins occur. Interpark is a greedy, creepy company. They refuse to install ANY sort of security. Sorry for the rant but I once I getting started talking about Interpark…
And can I say that I hate Interpark for giving
