This may be totally off-topic, but we had to go all the way to 2nd and East Capitol, NE to vote today. I guess this was the first time I realized our neighborhood is split into two wards. It felt very strange voting in Capitol Hill (especially since I moved to Penn Quarter from Capitol Hill over a year ago). How much political clout can we have if we’re split into 2 different wards? I know this is a big project but perhaps we should think about working to get the entire neighborhood under one ward. Who do we talk to about this?
I agree with Andy – it’s very weird to have my friends in 777 7th or other nearby buildings in a different ward and zip code. Aren’t we all in this together?
I also felt it was strange that even though there was a polling place just a couple blocks away at MLK library, i had to walk all the way over to east capitol to vote because i am right on the line in Ward 6. i would imagine that would likely mean the lower-ballot ward 6 candidates aren’t going to be catering to the few random buildings in our neighborhood rather than the rest of capitol hill, etc. — you can see that disparity clearly from the signage in the two neighborhoods.
if you email me i will share with you how this happened and suggest an effort that will correct the situation. it involves getting vince gray onboard very early so he can correct this situation when he becomes council chair.
To the blogger–why not cover the Jamal trial? He owns so much standing, desolate land and buildings in our neighborhood, I think it’s appropriate.
The Sonata is an atrocious piece of architecture. And not really sure what it will have views of…it’ll be difficult to get a view of the Capitol with Mass Court right there. The rest of the windows face run down neighborhoods. I will say the Safeway will be a nice convenience…then again, it will be for any of us in that area since we can’t seem to get any other grocers in the neighborhood.

the sonata is one incedible building. the views from the upper floors must be fabulous. halfway to the future safeway and to union station. 12 minutes to national airport. what a great location and visual presentation.
