Gould Makes Good On Raze Permit (609-631 I St NW)
krwaltondc was on the ball yesterday, witnessing Gould demo crews draw first blood on their future mega-development: 600 Mass Ave NW. The building being razed is the former home of Teddy’s House of Comedy.

I remember Tony Chen’s. When I was little, my father used to drive my brother and I down to the thriving Chinatown (early 1970s), we would go shopping at the market downstairs and then have Dim Sum — years before it was fashionable or anyone else in town offered it.
Yes, there were problems with the neighborhood then (after all, it was after the riots and my aunt’s liquor store at the corner of 9th and G (were the Y is now) was destroyed.)
Even so, this area has always held a special place in my heart — and with every closing of an original haunt, I feel we are getting closer to living in Bethesda-south — not DC.
Oh well.
I think our area is more of deserted Roslyn with all the stores leaving and office buildings going up as compared to Bethesda.
oh yeah…that where that awful asian market was before it moved to H street. thanks for reminding me! LOL
Ditto on Rosslyn. I _wish_ we could have the amount of retail Bethesda has, even if it is Pottery Barn, Gap, and Barnes and Noble instead of local furniture, clothing, and book stores. Retail that’s open until 9:00 or 10:00 is essential for a vibrant neighborhood. I know there’s good intentions behind wanting local businesses to remain, but let’s not cut off chain stores to spite our neighborhood.
