I, for one, would like to see a residential component over on 3rd. although Mass Court is right there, residential living would expand the web of a living neighborhood over to 3rd, south of Mass.
also on the listJemal is requesting to raze the Waffle Shop :

Maybe there’s no such word, but I certainly knew what the author meant. And if you’ve seen the horrible proposal, then glomification is a pretty terrific way of describing it.
dcdna, I’m not sure where you got info saying the proposed building is going to be 189+
feet, but have no fear, there is a congessional and city mandate on building height, so it most likely won’t be higher than the 130′ that Mass Court is at its highest. Maybe the 189′ is the total building height including underground parking… although that lot seems to be a bit too small to have any underground parking, who knows. Nonetheless, only a few units in Mass Court who have Capitol views will be blocked.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
The Canterbury will be on the agenda tonight at the ANC6C meeting. The concept eliminates the residential component as gloms the Canterbury onto a 189+ foot tall building that will obstruct some current residents capital view. It puts a large dense building onto a small lot that will dwarf the remaining adjacent buildings. 3rd Street NW, between G and H Streets NW is not a pretty street, especially since it overlooks highway 95. However, it would be better to consider this street development in concert with whatever the final air-rights development plan is for the adjacent area. The loss of the housing component is especially troubling. At best, a more modest glomification of the Canterbury should be considered. Still, a redevelopment of the apartment building into an renewed residential building would be great.
