Interesting "Neon Sign" Building Permit Approved
This week’s approved permits bring the usual approvals associated with ongoing construction. However, there is one curious permit approval:
- 11/03/06
601 F ST NW
Install exterior signage with wire mesh facia as background, neon tubing in letters light animation check mark as per attached drawings
Washington Sports center enter.
Analysis: Ok, we know the permit text is usually riddled with typos and inaccuracies, so we’re assuming this permit was filed by the “Washington Sports Club” that is located on the lower level of the Gallery Place complex next to the 7th & H St Metro entrance. What’s interesting is that the sign is supposed to be installed somewhere on the Verizon Center building.. you know, the same building occupied by WSC’s competitor, VIDA Fitness. Could this be the beginning of the battle of the big neon gym signs?
We’re going along with what Anon said: this is just another Verizon Center sign with an animated Verizon “check mark” logo.

or, since it is the address of the Verizon Center, it seems more likely that an animated and neon check mark (the logo of verizon) would be just another sign on the arena facade…
