Now: Potbelly’s – Then: Dean & Deluca (pic)
The old Dean & Deluca in the Warner Building at 1299 Penn Ave (it’s actually at 13th and E Street, a block removed from Penn Ave) is now a Potbelly Sandwich Works. We checked it out and found the same sandwiches you always expect from the midwest chain with a moderate amount of seating in this basement eatery. Of note, Potbelly’s is also introducing a salad line for lunch and dinner as an alternative to their sandwiches.

Try the cafe in Olsson’s. There aren’t a lot of comfortable chairs, but it’s usually the best atmosphere to actualy read the paper while drinking your latte (even if it’s at a table).
What a downgrade! There is a Potbelly’s at 11th and F streets too. Can you say saturation. I’d take a Dean and Deluca mini-mart anywhere in PQ.
Walked by this evening, they plan to have outdoor seating which is at least a step in the right direction for that part of downtown.
The last we heard about C3Fix (AKA Co Co) was at the end of March. The proprietor said that plans were still premature. I’m guessing we have a few more months to go on that retail outlet.

Anyone know of a good “read the paper and drink coffe” spot? After Juan Valdez closed the neighborhood definitely needs one! The Starbucks have good coffee, but the employees are surly, the noise from the blenders running non-stop drowns out any music and the obligatory 2 “comfy chairs” are actually not that comfy. Any alternatives?
