Penn Quarter/Downtown DC Restaurant Openings & Closings

Photo above: Bar Deco (717 6th St NW) plans to open in September.
As we enter the Labor Day weekend we say hello to new restaurants, welcome to replacements and renovations, and farewell to the departures. PQ Living will be off until Tuesday, September 8…have a great, relaxing Labor Day weekend everyone!
Closed/Closing
Tai Shan (622 H St NW) – This long running Chinese restaurant on H St closed over the weekend.
Noelia (1319 F St NW) – It’s unclear exactly what is going on here as the restaurant is closed to the public and no longer listed in OpenTable. The website remains operational and a sign is up in the venue’s windows teasing about what comes next.
Opened/Opening
Tadich Grill (1001 Pennsylvania Ave NW) – This San Francisco eatery will debut in mid-September in the old Ten Penh space.
Bar Deco (717 6th St NW) (mid-September) – This art deco building has been beautifully restored on the exterior to make way for a new restaurant/bar. It should have a fantastic roof deck. Formerly The Rock, Coyote Ugly, and Muse Lounge.
Burn (477 H St NW) (in development) – A cigar lounge is proposed at the corner of 5th and H St NW next to Chinatown Coffee.
Replacement
McCormick and Schmick’s (901 F St NW) – The Smith from New York City will replace McCormick and Schmick’s sometime next year once the lease turns over.
Under Renovation/Temporarily Closed
701 Restaurant (701 Pennsylvania Ave NW) – This restaurant is closed for renovations between August 30 and September 4 and will then reopen.
Greene Turtle (601 F St NW) – This eatery attached to the Verizon Center is closed for renovations and will reopen in September.
The Source (555 Pennsylvania Ave NW) – This Wolfgang Puck restaurant closed for much of August and will open in ‘late August’ per OpenTable. OpenTable shows no availability going forward so we’ll have to wait for the all clear.
Denson (6th St NW) – This subterranean bar is taking a week off from August 31 to September 7. They’re back open on September 8.

Good riddance to McCormick & Schmick’s. This started off as a really goo restaurant when it opened, but gradually started going downhill. The service is simply horrible and “management” is in name on;y, not function. I stopped going there years ago after a disastrous evening with guests.
I’ve been to the roof deck at Bar Deco and it’s pretty quiet with no loud music. I think as long as they keep it that way the roof deck won’t bother neighbors. This is a welcome addition to the neighborhood after the disgusting Muse establishment, which was an embarrassment to the community.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I hope the Bar Deco manager realizes that their roof deck has residential buildings all around it, so if they play loud music on the roof late at night they’ll have noise complaints up the wazoo.
