The sound on the billboards seemed to be turned off yesterday when I went by (Sunday, 1/13/08, about 2:30pm). I’m not sure why. I know sometimes they’re very loud. I’m not usually up at that corner, so I don’t know how often the sound is on or off.
I DO know they’re pretty hideous and awful, though!!
I don’t know about yesterday but it is on today; in fact you can’t miss it if you want to. Loud it is. The signs are so cheap looking, for the $150,000 a month fee Western Development and their partners charge they could have given the advertisers more for the buck. I can’t understand the premise, for hideous signs that annoy or anger most people who hear/see it you would think that Coke and AT&T would be smart enough to opt out. Then again how smart is AT&T to have signs that partly obscure their advertising windows? Coke should pay AT&T some $$ for that.
Here’s what AT&T’s obnoxious billboards do for me: Keep me far, far away form them. If you’re going to pollute my neighborhood with your noise and in-your-face advertising, I will not set foot in your stores or website. Promise.
I know that the AT&T store is coming on the corner of 7th & H St, but I find it absurd that they are trying to surround the Verizon Center with their billboards and banners. It’s like a telecom turf war.

Thank you Adam!
