PQNA Breakfast Meeting Tomorrow (713 7th St NW)
The next Penn Quarter Neighborhood Association will be held on January 15 at Aveda Institute (713 7th St NW).
You are invited to enjoy a continental breakfast between 8:30 and 9:00. At 9:00, following announcements, Susan Spain, the National Park Service’s Project Executive for The National Mall Plan, will give us an update of their work on both The National Mall and Pennsylvania Avenue including suggestions they have received and a range of alternatives they are considering for upgrading both Pennsylvania Avenue and the National Mall.
Because Jo-Ann is in the process of moving her office and does not yet have a business phone, please RSVP via email at joann@PennQuarter.org. When responding, please include the first and last names and affiliations of all people attending, not just those who are coming for the first time.

Sorry, residents, but these meetings are not really designed for you. But, you are cordially invited to attend.
Sorry you feel that way, Observer, but, you are wrong; the breakfast meetings have been held regularly since 1992. Richard Backer who then worked for the Gunwyn Company, the developer of The Lansburgh, thought the meetings would be a great way to hear from city leaders and learn about efforts that might affect the the neighborhood AND a great way for everyone to meet their neighbors — residents and those working here.
People who attend, including residents, must like them if they continue attending. Actually, I can’t believe I have been organizing these meetings for over 14 years!
The meetings are designed for both residents and for those who work here or have businesses here.
No time seems to be convenient for everyone as you saw from a couple of the comments.
We have found that evening meetings draw no more residents than breakfast meetings. Even the receptions that we invite people to and for which there is no charge don’t draw more residents than the breakfast meetings.
I have not seen many residents at the MPD First District meetings — and those who come seem for the most part to be the same people each month (those meetings are the first Monday of the month — save holidays — at 7pm).
I have not been able to attend a downtown residential association meting in some time, but the ones I went to had no more residents in attendance than the breakfast meetings.
There was a good showing of residents at this morning’s meeting, which had over 130 in attendance.
I may be wrong, but it seems to me that this is a neighborhood of very busy people with not a whole lot of discretionary time. So any meeting regardless of the time, just like any volunteer effort, has to have a compelling reason for someone to participate or attend.
Over the course of a year, I try to vary the topics and speakers with the hope that people will find at least one or two meetings a year that would interest them. Hope you find a topic that intersts you and you can come to a breakfast meeting soon. If the morning is a problem, I hope you can attend the next evening reception.
Cheers, Jo-Ann.

I wish these would take place earlier in the morning. While I’m not naturally an early riser, I’d get up earlier to be able to go. When the talks don’t even get started until 9, it basically means I’d have to take the whole morning off of work, or most of it. (I work fairly nearby but not THAT nearby.) If they started at 8 or so it’d make a big difference.
