Smoking In The Boy’s Room
It appears that the downtown destination for cigar smokers, Shelly’s Back Room (1331 F St NW) is expanding into the next door space that used to be occupied by Class Act Salon (also at 1331 F St NW). Class Act is now closed, and attached to their windows are both a building permit and ABA beverage notice. It is that beverage notice that includes the Shelly’s contact information. The building permit only notes that it is for restaurant alteration and repair.
Shelly’s is certainly a popular spot and one of the few places that you can kick back with your Have-A-Tampa. It makes sense that they want to expand their operations, assuming we’re reading these notices correctly .

I guess you can still have a cigar at Ozio. I didn’t realize they were able to maintain that ability post smoking ban.
This is great news! Shelly’s is a great place but I’m curious to know why they’re expanding – it’s never full anytime I’ve been there.
On the subject (sort of), does anyone know if Central Liquor is taking their outdoor signage (neon or incandescent with vertical red letters) with them to their new location?
I really like that sign and it’s been around for awhile now.
OT: While walking along 11th street the other day, the doors to the space between H&M and Forever 21 (just south of the metro entrance) were open and lots of construction was going on inside. Does anyone know what’s going in that space?
Hmmmmm… Forever 21 was originally going to be a tenant in the basement of Woodie’s (the part that’s not the wax museum) until West Elm left and they took over that space instead. So perhaps something is going to move into the basement after all?
Right, I thnk it is all Forever 21. This WBJ article from February states that F21 was originally going to take the basement (25,000 Sq Ft) but when the West Elm space came avaialble (40,000 Sq Ft) they decided to take it all and make a roughly 65,000 Sq Ft store.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

Columbo – you say Shelly’s is one of the few places you can smoke a cigar. Where are the others in DC? Shelly’s is the only DC cigar bar I am aware of.
