US Navy Memorial To Observe Veterans Day
Tomorrow, the U.S. Navy Memorial will observe Veterans Day with a great program starting at 1 pm. For those of us who remember our elders telling us about their experiences during World War II, the second part of the program should be particularly enjoyable.
When…
1 PM – Wreath Laying Ceremony by the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard and Navy Band
2:30 PM – “World War II Radio Show” Live Concert – For one hour, be transported back to the 1940s with local entertainers “Make A Scene Music” recreating the atmosphere of a WWII era radio show as performed by “Maxine and LaVerne Andrews,” accompanied at the keyboard by their sister, “Patty.”
The “Andrews Sisters” will answer requests from the mailbag for musical dedications, reviving memories from those who served during WWII. This interactive program involves the “radio studio” audience with requests, sing-alongs and trivia questions from the era. It’s fun for all ages, but especially seniors and veterans. Some of the songs performed will include popular 1940s hits such as “Don’t Sit Under the Appletree,” “Sentimental Journey,” and “I’ll Be Seeing You,” along with patriotic favorites like “You’re A Grand Old Flag” and “God Bless America.”
