Witness The Freakshow: ANC 2C Meeting On Wednesday
No thanks to our ANC commissioner (Doris Brooks) – who would rather all of these meetings take place in secret: the next ANC 2C meeting will be on Wednesday, February 7, 2007; 6:30pm at the Africare House, 440 R Street, NW.
Here is a link to the site of another ANC commissioner’s website who posted the agenda.

If you have not attended one of these meeting before, you really should go tomorrow night. It is a HUGE embarrassment to know that Mrs. Brooks represents you, and demonstrates why local elections are so important. In particular, watch how her “parliamentarian” basically tells her or provides her with a script for almost every word that comes out of her mouth. Literally.
Anything that can be done to galvanize the GP voters and make them aware of the situation would be extremely helpful in ensuring these conditions don’t continue…who knows what might be accomplished in our neighborhoods with ANC representation in place!
here’s a link to the youtube video of the meeting. this ought to motivate folks in to action:

That meeting couldn’t possibly be for real…it’s worse than a high school student council. And I thought that Leroy Thorpe was booted out.
Can someone give a good explination about the power an ANC exerts. I know the Georgetown and Dupont ANCs are pretty powerful. How does ours fare?
OMG, that YouTube video is outrageous. Horrible. It makes me despair for humanity – or at least ANC 2C.
Has anyone been to one of ours yet? I need to go and check out whether ours is any better.
Anon: Actually, the procedure for recalling an elected ANC official is pretty simple. Here is a link to the process. You only need 10% of the registered voters to sign a petition.
The real issue is getting people to vote for the other candidate when the special election is held. If you recall an official, and everyone still votes the same way in the special election, nothing has been achieved by the recall.
wow on the youtube video. we can all complain about dc being dysfunctional, but seeing something like that really drives it home. i feel sick.
yes..getting people registered is one hurdle and getting them to vote is another.
turn out in 08 will be higher than 06 becuase jack is one the ballot and its a presidental election.

0
Under Votes: 49

JOHN TINPE 131 28.85%
DORIS L. BROOKS 315 69.38%
I think Thorpe needs spell check for the last sentense, I mean sentence, of the agenda. Maybe those computers the ANC paid for could be put to use in that capacity.
for those of you who werent able to make it, OffSeventh has an extensive recap. Audio reportedly coming soon.
Not everyone is a “freak” who attends these meetings. 99.9% (or just 90%…) of the folks who attend are interested in helping to make our community better for everyone. The real freaks in our world are those who don’t care or just sit around geeking out behind their computers, completely disengaged with other humans.
could the ANC meeting be held any further away from people? i mean for crying out loud, it’s way up near the northeast corner of the Commission and for some reason it’s held on private property with no video tape rules? what kind of public meeting is that? ah, a closed meeting, we’re use to those.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
…which is one of a zillion reasons why you, the good people of Gallery Place, should vote her out.
The only explanation for why this didn’t happen last November is that folks must not be paying attention. Several times I’ve spoken with people who live in GP about the absurdities of those who control ANC2C (Thorpe, Brooks, Curtis) only to be looked at blankly.
The ‘great weight’ which the city places on ANC2C votes directly affects what does and does not get built in your neighborhood.
