On My Foodie Radar
Here are just a few things I’ve been exploring around the Web to satisfy my foodie cravings.
Starting this week, America Eats Tavern (405 8th St. NW) will be offering the Thomas Downing Oyster and Cocktail Hour with $1 oysters on the half shell and drink specials. Generously, these specials are going to be offered 4-6pm and 9pm-close.
Ending Thursday, November 3, Proof (775 G St. NW) is offering a special menu inspired by Alice B. Tolkas, the life-long partner of Gertrude Stein. Stein is currently featured in an exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery across the street.
I’ve been hearing amazing things about The Columbia Room at Passenger (1021 7th St. NW). I recently discovered that they offer mixology classes. One of interest to me this month (11/19), French Herbal Liqueurs: A Religious Experience. After thoroughly enjoying a Chartreuse Mojito in Paris earlier this year, I’ve been asking bartenders to incorporate this unique and delicious liqueur into all sorts of cocktails for me. I would love to know more about it’s uses and history!
Next Monday, November 7, is the FreshFarm Markets annual benefit gala. A great opportunity to enjoy a custom-designed menu from the area’s best chefs and support the incredible organization behind our local farmers’ markets. New this year, you can bid online for auction items before the event. This is always a great event with fabulous foodie-centric food and auction items.

Thanks to my friend Drew (formerly of DC Foodies) I was able to attend one of recent Champagne dinners at the Columbia Room in the Passenger. Derek Brown was a wonderful host and we all had a great time over champagne and cocktails, with various paired dishes. It was a great time, but for a weekday event I really needed more food; it made for a rough Thursday morning. But over a weekend, if I had the next day off, or if I didn’t get up so damn early? Too much fun.
