Fuel Pizza To Score, King Burgers No More
Earlier this week, we were walking home from work along K Street NW eager for some flame broiled dinner at our favorite two story Burger King (1606 K St NW) only to discover that it was closed. We don’t mean not open…we mean no illuminated neon sign…no backlit menu…no sign of life (or the King)…and a vinyl “For Lease” sign flapping on the side of the building. There was no having it our way because there was no way to have it. We learned from the Washington Business Journal that Fuel Pizza will be opening a location in that space. What made the news more tasty is that Fuel will also bring its pies to a new location in the Penn Quarter at 600 F St NW. For those that walk by the building regularly, that’s the OBA Federal Bank building right on the corner of 6th and F St NW which has been empty for a while. Time to scratch another vacant property off the list.

Down with Burger King (and McDonalds)!!! I applaud any news of one of those evil establishments closing down.
@Paul – the BK being closed is on K Street just west of 16th. it had a street level and upper level seating area. the BK in the PQ at the corner of 5th and G Streets NW remains open for all the neighborhood’s culinary needs. that’s the one with the subterranean seating area to which you refer.
@Anonymous – not so sure pizza is any more or less “evil” than hamburgers.
Ooops, I should read more carefully. I skimmed through quickly and assumed it was the Chinatown BK since that’s the only one I knew of in the neighborhood.
For lease signs…Those are never a fun reason to change your dinner plans. But on the bright side hooray for Fuel Pizza in not one but 2 new locations! 😀 So were you still able to get in your burger fix?
True confession: I love the BK Veggie at Burger King and frequent the Chinatown location to get it. I am a vegetarian and it is my fast food fix. I know it’s just a Morningstar burger and could buy the frozen ones myself, but I love them from the King. Must’ve been all that Mickey D’s I had as a kid.
@Chris – we did get our burger fix. fortunately, CVS sells these…White Castle frozen sliders. Harris Teeter also has the big WC boxes.
Awesome! Yeah, I’ve picked those up before. Not exactly the same as Fresh White Castle, but definitely worthy of fixing a burger craving.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I never once ventured down into the basement level of the Burger King. Is a dank cramped low ceiling space only suitable for fast food chain? Or does it have enough potential for a more substantive restaurant to make useful? For instance could you see an establishment of a similar caliber to Absolute Thai using that basement?
