North Neighbors Making Progress
This is the CityVista construction site to the north of our neighborhood. The skeleton of The L is fully constructed and many of the windows are in place. There are two condo buildings (The L and The K) and one apartment building (The V) in the project. For us Penn Quarter residents, we’ll have to look to the “urban lifestyle” Safeway as the closest green grocer which will locate at the corner of 5th and K.

Speaking of grocers and progress, no progress on the plans for the would-be-Balducci’s-space on 7th? Does anyone have any info? Since I haven’t heard anything I’m guessing not.
Which building is the Safeway in? If memory serves, it’s not in the first bldg scheduled for completion.
CBD–I guess we got what we deserved (according to a long-ago comment) re Balducci’s… The developer says a couple chains are interested (I’ve heard TJ’s and MacGruder’s) but no bites yet.
And, now that we’ve reached the end of the year, if I remember correctly they no longer have to save the space for a grocery store right, and they can split up the space and lease to someone else if they so chose?
I don’t live in the Clara Barton, but I understand the owners there were promised a grocery store by the developer? No grocery store has a serious effect on property values, so if said promises were made and then reneged, I smell a lawsuit. Even if there isn’t legal grounds for a suit, we need to fight any non-grocery store with the zoning board, ANC, council, or whoever. Guessing that PQNA will be of no help.
It was clear from the condo documents for the Clara Barton/Lafayette that the developer was not promising a grocery store.
Why the negative comment about PQNA? It was my understanding that the association, or at least certain of its members, have been very instrumental in developing our neighborhood and bringing in retail.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
