Small Fire At Gallery Place? Interesting View
This morning, we received a note from Scott at the Gallery Place building: [Here’s something] I don’t usually see out my front window in the morning..
It doesn’t appear that the fire was in the commercial area of the Gallery Place complex. Anyone have more information? We’ll also update this post when DCFD posts more info.
Thanks goes out to Scott for the pic!

Just as an aside, I think there are some DC fire trucks that have ladders that go up 135 ft or so.. it debunks the old “don’t want to be higher than the 7th floor” saying in times of an emergency.
the original reason for the height restriction was because that’s how high the fire trucks went and Congress didn’t want to keep shelling out money for new equipment every time a new taller building was erected. I would rest assured in DC that, except for the top of the Washington Monument, that if there was a fire, the DCFD could reach it.

This happened last winter sometime when I lived in the building. A fireman got in the bucket atop the later and was raised up to about the 10th floor. I called the front desk to inquire, and while they were cagey, I got the sense that maybe it was a threatened suicide or someone that might need rescuing … ? The fireman in the bucket stayed at about 10th floor level for a few minutes, not really seeming to do anything, then it was lowered down. Odd.
