Vapiano Restaurant Review (Ballston Opening)
monkeyrotica wrote in to let us know about a nice review of the Ballston grand opening of the Vapiano Itialian restaurant.
Sounds like the food is a good value and the ordering process is unique! Can’t wait for the H street location to open up here!

Hey there, anonymous. No, I have not tried the Ballston Vapiano. I just got back into DC today, so I may just head on over to give it a try! It’s nice to be back in town for a little while at least.
I wasn’t impressed. It’s an Italian restaurant run by Germans where eurotrashy snootiness
serves up Domino’s grade pizza. Domino’s, at least, delivers. Vapiano? Nein! On my visit, I
ordered a pizza with “spicy Italian sausage”. Know what that is? It’s plain pepperoni!! I
suppose they’re technically correct that pepperoni is indeed a spicy Italian sausage, but just call it pepperoni. Their “unique” ordering process goes like this: You get a card at the door. You walk to the pizza counter and wait in line to swipe your card to order your
pizza, and get a pager from the pizza guy. You walk to a seat somewhere to claim your
spot. You walk over to the bar and wait in line to swipe your card to get a drink.
You walk back to your seat. Your pager goes off, so you walk to the pizza counter, and wait in line again to be recognized to get your pizza, napkin and utensils. You walk back to your seat again and finally eat.
Despite their high prices and “innovative” ordering process, they are still too cheap to pay for automated clearing house credit card processing (ACH), so if their high-tech cash registers won’t read your credit card, you
better have cash on hand because they will refuse to type in the numbers manually!

Octavio, have you tried this new location yet?
