Washington Monument Red Blinking Lights – Where Are You Tonight?
Just noticed that the red lights at the top of the Washington Monument aren’t blinking right now – anyone know why?
Update ~8:45pm: Okay, they’re back on – thanks!

The lights are aircraft warning lights. I don’t think they really need to blink, do they? I mean, since no building in Washington can be higher than the monument, if you were flying an aircraft, wouldn’t you just keep your altitude above 600 feet, and then you don’t have to worry about hitting anything? Of course, I thought Washington was a ‘no-fly’ zone, so why would you even need the lights anyway? Maybe they flash every time a Republican gets his wings… hence the solid burn…
