Events/News
Downtown – Apple will definitely not be opening a store in CityCenter. Bummer. [WaPo]
Development
Penn Quarter (East) – Capitol Crossing IS moving forward. 2.2 million square feet combined of real estate development over the I-395 highway reconnecting F and G Streets NW from Penn Quarter towards Capitol Hill. [Washington Business Journal]
Restaurants/Food
Downtown – Joe’s Stone Crab opens to the public for dinner on Friday, January 31, at 750 15th St NW (the corner of 15th and H St NW). This is directly across 15th Street from Woodward Table and Joe’s does have a nice starting wine list. [WaPo] & [Joe’s website] & [Joe’s opening menu [PDF]] & [Joe’s opening wine list [PDF]]
Downtown – Richard Sandoval will be expanding his restaurant empire to 1300 Eye St NW with Toro Toro, a 240 seat churrascaria. Steak anyone? [Washington Business Journal]
Penn Quarter – Flight Wine Bar opens at 777 6th Street NW. We enjoyed a preview and will be checking it out again later this week. [Penn Quarter Living]
Mount Vernon Triangle – A two-fer…(1) Silo is open at 907 5th St NW (website – Twitter – Facebook); and (3) Alba Osteria, 425 I St NW, opened also (website – Twitter – Facebook).
Penn Quarter/Chinatown – Jackpot, a subterranean bar at 726 7th St NW, opened. We visited for a drink and it’s definitely a basement bar. [Jackpot Facebook page] & [Washington City Paper]
Penn Quarter – The Market in the ground floor of MenuMBK opened at 405 8th St NW. We checked it out Saturday and Sunday and think it has promise. Will it become Penn Quarter’s long lost bodega? [Penn Quarter Living] & [Nick Owens Tweet] & [Brightest Young Things] & [WTOP radio bit]
Penn Quarter – The Red Apron restaurant under construction in the 700 block of D St NW will no longer be called Parts & Labor; it will be called The Partisan. [Washington CityPaper]
Crib of the Week (CotW)
Our CotW this week is view-a-licious. It’s a high level unit at The Clara Barton (616 E Street NW) listed at $819K sporting 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a balcony with delightful north and west views overlooking the intersection of 7th and E Streets. We’ve visited a unit with this floor plan and it is nicely sized for both city entertaining and city living. The condo fee is $850 per month. We can write all we want but we’ll let the photos in the virtual tour (last link) do the talking (again). Love it. [Redfin listing – 616 E St NW – Unit 1118 – MLS DC8258901] & [MRIS Photo Tour]
