Maybe They’re Getting Ready For Christmas In July
In October of 2007 we chided the Washington Welcome Center (1001 E ST NW) for putting up their xmas tree display so early. Now here it is the end of April, and we’re chiding them for leaving it up too long. We know we can’t have it both ways, but come on, this is crazy. Take down the tree! Maybe consider a nice Washington Capitals display similar to the Redskins one they’ve had up before. We do admit it’s a nice touch that they’re still turning on the tree lights each night, almost makes it seem like it’s up there for a reason.
We like the Welcome Center, so we hope they’ll understand that we just want a very visible corner of the neighborhood to look nice and reasonably up-to-date. Speaking of which, doesn’t it seem strange that they have no discernable website? Do they have one and our searching (over the years) just hasn’t produced the right results?

Yup, tourists frequently ask for Christmas tree decorations without regard to the current season. The White House Visitor Center (inside Dept of Commerence Building – E St between 14th and 15th) does a HUGE business is selling the official White House oraments. Previous year oraments are amazingly expensive … and popular, too.
I’d like to think it’s deliberate, but considering it’s the same window that had the Redskins display I doubt it.
Still, I’d be willing to be convinced if Tour Guide tells me that that White House Visitor Center has an xmas tree up right now as well. But if they don’t, I say it’s just laziness at the E ST center.
People who are looking for ornaments do not need a tree to find them to collect.
It is time to take that stupid tree down.

Don’t you think it is to let people know they sell Christmas ornaments-something that tourists buy year round? Many little ole ladies from Minnesota need to know they can add to their collection! I do like the Caps idea – but that is for us not the tourists! Its all about selling selling selling….
