Penn Quarter – A car plows into Central Restaurant and its outdoor seating area at 11th and Pennsylvania; a few people were hurt unfortunately. [WaPo] & [WUSA – Channel 9]
Penn Quarter – The Woolly Mammoth Theatre buys its 641 D Street NW facility outright from the original property developer, JPI. [WaPo]
Chinatown – Chinatown restaurateur Tony Cheng and his son are indicted in a taxi bribery scheme. [Washington City Paper]
Penn Quarter – The Shake Shack opens at 8th and F St NW in the Spy Museum building. They even have an ice cream mix that blends in a coconut Astro Doughnut. [Washingtonian] & [Shake Shack Menu]
Penn Quarter – Speaking of which, the competition in some part, FroZenYo, opens its 712 7th St NW store on July 3. [WTOP]
Downtown – Casa Luca at 1099 New York Ave NW, another restaurant by Fabio Trabocchi of Fiola fame, opens on Friday, July 5. Casa Luca is a more casual osteria than Fiola which is in Penn Quarter. [Bad Wolf Blog (Shaw neighborhood)] & [Casa Luca website]
Penn Quarter – Jose Andres of the Think Food Group launches a food line. [Washington City Paper]
Downtown – Another mega-restaurant is coming to DC…it’s Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab at 740 15th Street NW across the street from Woodward Table. How mega? Capacity for almost 800 people mega and the construction permits have been filed. [Washington Business Journal]
The Internet – Google discontinues Google Reader, their online RSS newsreading program, today but there are alternatives out there. [Wired Magazine] & [The Verge]
Penn Quarter Crib of the Week – We didn’t see anything truly special worth pointing out. We’ll keep an eye out though!
