Smithsonian’s Norman Foster Designed Courtyard Opens Nov. 18 (8th & F St NW)
The Smithsonian has a press release informing us that the Robert and Arlene Kogod Courtyard of the Donald W. Reynolds Center opens to the public Sunday, Nov. 18. The enclosed courtyard will feature a glass canopy designed by world-renowned architect Norman Foster, and a variety of trees, plantings, and water feature by designer Kathryn Gustafson.
An all-day, free festival in the Kogod Courtyard is planned for opening day.
And, best of all, this means that we get our sidewalk back on the west side of 7th St NW between F & G St!

This is so great. After watching Sketches of Frank Gehry, it is truly sad that we won’t have his addition to the Corcoran in our city. This work will soften that blow considerably. I’m so glad they kept it.
I hear this isn’t the end of the construction. Apparently, next they are going to restore the south entrance to the building to its original configuration–staircase up to the 2nd floor. So I wouldn’t count on getting that sidewalk or those views back quite yet.

Very exciting, thanks for the heads up! I can’t wait to have clear views from the Portico.
