Portico Outdoor Café at the Portrait Gallery
The Hotel Washington isn’t the only outdoor cafe with a great view. Although you wouldn’t know it from these photos where I’ve managed to get a large column in every shot.
Scenes from the Portico outdoor cafe at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery on Sunday. This cafe has been mentioned on the blog before, but this blogger finally got around to checking it out on Sunday. It’s really nice, a split of sparkling white wine is only $11 and it even includes plastic champagne glasses!
The cafe is open in “seasonal weather” daily from 11:30 am till 6:30 pm. Coffee, beer, wine, and other beverages available for pretty reasonable prices. Some food was available as well, but what was available on Sunday was less than tempting.

Cool! I’ve been meaning to go to the NPG to check out the Saul Steinberg show, and now I’ve made a mental note to go on a nice day so I can try the cafe.
