Menu MBK Closes In Penn Quarter (405 8th St NW)
A sign is up on the glass doors of Menu MBK (405 8th St NW) indicating the venue is now closed and to refer to the article in the Washington Post on the matter for more information. Both Menu’s website and Twitter accounts have vaporized. Menu opened in late January of this year having been repurposed from the restaurant Azur opened by Chef Frederik de Pue in April of 2013.
According to the Washington Post article, Menu never quite turned the profit that was hoped for by investors so the concept is now closed. We visited a number of times and really only saw convenience store shopping hit critical mass in the week that followed opening. Otherwise, the store portion on the ground floor was pretty sparsely populated. We’ll keep an eye out for what comes next in the space.

I went a few times to buy La Colombe coffee. I tried a sandwich, but for $11 it was way too expensive and wasn’t very good. I’m not surprised they closed.
