Construction Photos From Around PQ
Several photo updates of various projects going on around the PQ neighborhood.
A plywood construction zone was built up last week for Zara on F ST (the old Woodies building, store front next door to H&M) and was decorated with this advertisement recently. Apologies for the thumb shot.
A look inside at the West Elm construction going on on the G st side of the Woodies building, looks like there is still much to be done. Camera phone image is a pretty blurry though.
This is a photo of the McDonald’s construction at E St next door to the Artisan. They’ve got a sign up saying “Caution: Lasers in use.”
A shot from a week ago when E street was partially blocked to allow a street crane to remove the internal crane from the Piper building going in at 9th & E.
And finally a shot of the ongoing construction on 11st between F & G, the 11th & F corner is where the Popeye’s and boxing studio used to be.

God we can only hope for Gtown’s retail. I know it’s basically a mall with cars, but at least the storefronts aren’t empty!
This construction is great, though. Do we know if Zara is building a new exterior entrance? That space didn’t have a door to the outside, and I presume the Flagg Bros building is reserved as the Wax Museum entrance (which is also scheduled to open in the next couple months). West Elm looks beautiful inside.
anon 10:46 — where did you hear/read that the Flagg Bros building will be used for Wax extrance? I assumed it as well but I haven’t seen confirmation that this is a fact. It would make an interesting entrance, for sure.
Anon 10:46– I asked one of the construction workers about the exterior door, but they couldn’t (or wouldn’t) tell me any details. I’ll try again at a later date.
I haven’t heard that the Flagg building will definitely be the entrance, but when Jemal closed the deal on that property last year he said it would make a great entrance to the Woodies building. And with Zara, H&M, West Elm, and the office building above taking all of the other entrances (or building their own in Zara’s case?), the logical conclusion is that Flagg will be the wax museum’s entrance. That’s also the corner that’s closest to the Spy Museum, Ford’s Theater, etc., so a perfect fit for a touristy museum entrance.

Man, I remember when there was a Burger King and a Roy Rogers in Georgetown.
Looks like PQ is moving slowly, albeit surely, along the same lines as the GTown development.
Kinda cool, kinda freaky.
