Komen Race For The Cure Runs Tomorrow
The annual Komen Race for the Cure benefitting breast cancer research will take place tomorrow, Saturday, June 6 on a course surrounding the National Mall. The home page and race course detail for the 5K race with an 8 am start is here and you can still register today at the Department of Commerce building. There is no late registration on race day. We’ve run this race in some of the past years and can vouch that it is probably the largest 5K race in the area for the year. The schedule of events follows…
6 am – Pre-Race Activities Begin
(Donation Drop-Off, Survivor Breakfast, Top Fundraiser Breakfast, and Congressional & International Tents)
7:15 am – Survivors line up at Survivor Tent to prepare for the “Global Spirit Parade of Survivors” (All other participants should head to the start line by 7:00 am.)
7:20am – Ceremony Starts
8 am – Runner Start (7th street NW and Madison Drive NW)
8:15am – Walker Start (National Mall and 4th Street)
8:15am – Post-Race Activities Open (Race Refreshments, Kids for the Cure® Tent, Marketplace featuring great partner giveaways and information, Fundraising Reward Distribution, Komen Village)
10 am – Kids for the Cure Race
The race course is essentially a big loop around the Mall with a panhandle between 15th and 19th Streets, NW along Constitution Avenue. At approximately 7:50am, Constitution Avenue between 4th and 19th Streets, NW will close and the north-south streets intersecting Constitution Avenue from 6th Street west to 15th Street also will be closed south of Pennsylvania Avenue. Pennsylvania Avenue and each of the cross streets will reopen after the last participant in the race runs/walks past a given cross street and the police determine it is safe to open the street. Check the race course map for more detail.
