H Street NW Closure Tonight (600 Block)
By way of DCist, we see that the Chinatown Archway will be undergoing maintenance. The impact is that the 600 block of H Street NW will be closed from midnight tonight to approximately 5 am tomorrow morning. Through detours are via F Street or Eye Street NW.

It’s the westbound(towards Chinatown) spur that’s blocked off. I’m sure the barrels are temporary, but turning the spur (and the mirror image one in front of the 555 condo) into one-way lanes is permanent. I’m glad they’ve finally done this, it’s an incredibly dangerous intersection. I can’t tell you how many near-misses I’ve seen with cars trying to turn onto that spur right in front of cars driving (usually too fast) on Mass Ave towards 395.
Good catch on the west/north issue. So are they going to turn the closed area into parking or just make one big southband lane merging into Mass. Ave? (Funny enough, I never knew the mirror spur at 555 was two ways; I always thought it was incredibly dangerous for anyone to try to reach it from Mass. Ave — much more difficult, I think, than trying to reach the other spur, but that’s mostly because of the timing of the lights at intersections of 5th and 6th Streets with Mass. Ave.)
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Speaking of closures, DDOT has closed the northbound portion of the Eye Street spur that branches off of Massachusetts across 5th Street (in front of the Meridian). They painted the area with white stripes a while ago, and now (i.e., sometime on Wednesday) they’ve put a “DO NOT ENTER” sign blocking access from Mass. and pylons covering the rest. What a monumental disaster this will be, but I’m hoping it’s just temporary.
