Works In Progress
It looks like the old K&B Newsstand (1004 F street, pictured above with worker on ladder) is just about ready to open as a souvenir shop. We don’t have inside information on this, we’re basing this on the fact that space looks ready for racks of merchandise. We had our doubts about this location when the work began, but it has in fact cleaned up nicely. While the exterior isn’t anything special, it will be nice to have something other than an empty storefront as the plans for that corner are apparently on hold.
Speaking of empty storefronts, just next door to the newsstand space is the old DC SAMs spot (1006 F street). That location now has a sign in the window advertising Adamstein & Demetriou Architects. You may know A&D from projects such as Jurys Hotel, the Podesta’s residence, and PQ’s own Zola Wine & Kitchen (we won’t lie, we didn’t know any of that until we went to the A&D website). We’re hoping the ad being in the window of the old DC SAMS space means something fun is coming to that spot.
Our final bit of news on empty storefronts is from Maggie Moos (1001 Penn Ave NW, on 11th between Penn and E), although it probably would have made a better fit in our post on seasonal work last month. We recently noticed that Maggie Moo’s has closed its doors in PQ, but only temporarily. The lights are off and the signs have come down, yet a note in the store promises better things to come next spring. The note reads:
Loyal customers we are closed for the season and will be making renovations this winter. We will reopen in the spring, thank you for a wonderful summer.

How about the spot on F St. plastered with Adobe literature across from Cowgirl? Do you think Adobe is taking any space there, or just obnoxious advertising?
