Noxious Smell on 8th St?
Has anyone else noticed the horrible smell on 8th St between D & E recently? We noticed it last weekend, and could still smell it last night. A harsh chemical smell, anyone know what that is? Not sure how people can sit outside at Teaism or Cafe Atlantico, it’s sometimes that bad.
On a completely unrelated note, happy 4th of July! Hope to have some fun photos or posts regarding the 4th later today.

Last Sunday, there was a crew of city workers hosing down the painted stripes on 8th Street. They were using a chemical spray. Maybe that is where the smell is coming from.
Thanks Anons, that must be it!
I loved the street painting, but that chemical spray smell is/was horrible. Hopefully the rain yesterday helped to clear the smell.
Classic. They first polluted the environment with the paint, which like any paint is full of nasty chemical components and volatile organic compounds, and now they’re spraying more chemicals to get it off. If I lived on 8th Street, I sure wouldn’t be opening my windows for “fresh” air and would be concerened with more than just the smell.
As I recall Target sponsored the painting in the first place. Why isnt Target paying to take it down?
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I live on 8th street and the turpentine smell first showed up this weekend. I think it has something to do with attempts to remove the ugly public art they painted on the surface of 8th street. There have been notices that they are attempting to remove it but the fading strips of paint hang on.
